Installation Best Practices for Commercial Vinyl Wallcoverings

Even the highest-quality vinyl wallcovering will fail if installation is botched. Here’s what to know to ensure a professional outcome on your next project.
Proper Installation Steps
-
Prime the walls using a recommended wallcovering primer.
-
Apply heavy-duty paste adhesive.
-
“Book” the vinyl before application (fold adhesive side to adhesive side to relax the material).
-
Align patterns and double-cut seams for a tight fit.
-
Smooth the material from the center outward to eliminate bubbles.
-
Trim top and bottom excess with a sharp blade.
Wall Preparation Matters
-
Walls should be Level 4 or 5 finish for commercial jobs.
-
Patch and sand any imperfections.
-
Remove old wallcoverings completely.
-
Surface must be clean, dry, and dust-free.
DIY vs. Pro Install
While tempting, vinyl wallcovering installation is not DIY-friendly - especially Type II/III. It's thick, heavy, and requires training to install cleanly. Hiring a certified installer minimizes risk and warranty issues.
