Sustainability

Command Wallcovering has long embraced a comprehensive “Green” corporate philosophy - one that permeates every stage of our manufacturing process and extends throughout the lifespan of our products. For nearly two decades, well ahead of much of the industry, we have been dedicated to creating stylish, sustainable wallcoverings while conducting our operations in an environmentally responsible way.

Since our inception in 1997, environmental stewardship has been at the forefront of Command’s mission. Nearly 20 years ago, when many in the industry were slow to respond, Command made the proactive decision to eliminate toxic, solvent-based inks from all products, switching exclusively to inks free of ozone-depleting chemicals. Alongside this, we implemented an aggressive recycling program to minimize landfill waste, recycling scrap metals, paper, cardboard, vinyl, and wallcovering trim.

Our commitment to sustainability goes beyond materials. We have achieved significant reductions in water and energy usage across our plants, offices, and warehouses. The installation of a closed-loop cooling system has  reduced water consumption by over 90%. We upgraded our electric generator motors to highly efficient inverters, drastically cutting electricity use during production. Our warehouses feature state of the art fluorescent lighting equipped with motion detectors, ensuring lights operate only when needed. Additionally, we actively encourage fuel-efficient vehicle use among our management and staff.

Rather than chasing fleeting trends, Command focuses on perfecting traditional fabric-backed vinyl wallcovering with a proven track record for durability and performance - while making it as eco-friendly as possible.

We are proud of the progress we have made and remain fully committed to reducing our carbon footprint and preserving the environment for future generations.

Machinery & Lighting
We've systematically upgraded large machinery with high-efficiency inverters, significantly reducing electricity usage during production. Our facility lighting has evolved from energy-saving fluorescent lights to advanced fixtures equipped with electric ballasts and motion sensors—ensuring lights only operate when needed.

Transportation and Export

Transportation and Export

Our strategic location in Wayne, NJ—just 10 miles from the Port of Newark—minimizes fuel consumption and emissions for both domestic and international shipments. Being near major highways also reduces transit time and energy use.

Product Composition

Product Composition

Our wallcovering products consist of 30–60% recycled content, reducing reliance on virgin materials and minimizing landfill waste. By eliminating toxic solvents and minimizing VOCs, we produce products that are safer for indoor environments and have lower environmental impacts.

Eliminating toxic solvents from our wallcovering products is beneficial to the environment and healthier for consumers, minimizing ozone depletion and producing less smog potential by minimizing VOC’s

Sustainable Packaging

We use reclaimed and recycled packaging materials and aim to keep packaging to a minimum—sufficient only to protect the product. Our materials are also recyclable on-site after delivery.

Why Vinyl Wallcovering?

Why Vinyl Wallcovering?

Vinyl wallcoverings offer:

Durability: Typically last 3–5 times longer than paint

Low Maintenance: Easy to clean with minimal effort

Low Emissions: Lower VOC output compared to most paints

Cost Efficiency: Long lifecycle reduces replacement and labor costs

Moisture & Mold Considerations

Moisture & Mold Considerations

Vinyl wallcovering is naturally low in moisture permeability—beneficial for durability and hygiene. However, in buildings where moisture can accumulate, it’s essential to ensure proper construction and maintenance. We offer perforated and alternative constructions to increase permeability when needed, but no surfacing can prevent mold if water intrusion persists. We strongly recommend consulting with building professionals to determine the best solution for your environment.
